Artificial Grass

Whether you call it synthetic grass, artificial grass, fake grass or even synthetic turf, has become exponentially more popular over the past 10 years. One of the major reasons for that is because the number of uses for artificial grass continues to grow. Let’s take a look at some of the reasons why it has continued to grow in popularity.

How is Artificial Grass Made?
Artificial turf grass is made up of fibers that look, and feel like natural grass but don’t require all the maintenance that real grass requires. At Southwest Greens, we pride ourselves on providing our clients 100% recyclable turf in a variety of heights ranging from 1 1/4” to 1 3/4” to 2” in different color blends. We also include silica sand infill during the installation process. This supports the grass fibers, cool the turf off and weigh the turf down so it is natural in appearance and under foot.

What Can It Be Used for?
The number of uses for artificial grass seemingly increase by the day. It can be used for all purposes that natural grass would be used for. In addition, it can also be used to create a fun space for you and your family. Bocce ball courts, croquet, putting greens, and turf hitting mats can all be made using artificial grass. At the end of the day, for whatever reason you are looking to have it installed, artificial grass isn’t subjected to the maintenance requirements that natural grass is.

How Much Does It Cost?
While the cost varies based on how much artificial grass you want to lay down, it is actually very cost-effective. The complete payback period when comparing artificial turf field or lawn to natural lawn is 3 to 5 years in most cases when all the costs associated with maintaining a healthy, natural grass lawn are factored in. Here is a look at our standard pricing:

  • For lawns: $9-$11 per sq. ft. depending upon the size of job and the type of turf selected.
  • For inlays (between pavers): 14-$15 per linear foot
  • Playground turf with safety shock pad: $12-$13 per sq. ft.
  • Putting greens: $18-$20 per sq. ft. plus installation charges

Please note that the actual pricing for individual jobs may vary depending upon the customized requirements of the clients.
