We have talked plenty in this space about all the great advantages of synthetic turf lawns. The appearance, lack of required maintenance, and lack of water needed are all great things about artificial grass. When it comes to synthetic lawns in West Palm Beach though, not everything is perfect. Let’s take a look at some of the pros and cons of synthetic lawns.
One of the main reasons artificial turf has become so popular, especially in particularly hot and dry areas, is the lack of water that is required for upkeep. According to the Environmental Protection Agency, it is estimated that traditional landscape irrigation accounts for one-third of all residential water use.
Natural grass lawns require a significant amount of upkeep in order to stay looking good. Artificial grass, on the other hand, can put up with heavy use and can last anywhere from 15 to 20 years. It also doesn’t harbor those pesky lawn pests that damage natural grass.
One of the downsides of synthetic grass, especially in those hot and dry areas, is that the surface can get very hot. This is because natural grass constantly keeps water within its soil to stay cool. The black rubber used with artificial grass also factors into the heat.
Artificial grass is more expensive to install than natural grass. One could argue though, that in the long-run it is more cost effective due to the life of the turf and the fewer maintenance requirements.
